The Boulder Amateur Radio Club (BARC) is over 60 years old and is still in a growth mode, currently boasting close to 200 members. One of the reasons we are growing is because we have invested in our own future. BARC has a youth amateur radio auxiliary club called BARC Junior, a 501(c)3 organization, for children from ages 6 to 18.
This youth program meets weekly, eleven months per year, and through the efforts of the Elmers involved has licensed over 200 new young hams in the past 20 years.
BARC Juniors are known worldwide, and their young representatives annually appear at the Dayton Youth Forum. BARC Juniors is recognized as one of the largest and most successful young ham programs in the nation! Seen in QSTSeptember 1997, page 49) and 73 Magazine (also September 1997, page 62).
Donations to BARC Jr. may be tax deductible.
The BARC Juniors again held their Field Day at the Valmont Community Church grounds, and every year it gets better and better. Great equipment, great BARC Jr. operators, fantastic BARC Jr. Elmers, and excellent food and accommodations made this another successful and fun-filled activity for all involved.
Over 80 people attended this year's Field Day operation. 26 BARC Juniors contributed SSB, PSK-31, and CW QSO's to their Field Day score of over 1400 total QSO's.
The BARC Jrs. operated their 3A Field Day station as KD0MXT in honor of their latest Extra Class Licensee, Alex Paul, KD0MXT.
Brady, KD0BJS was this year's recipient of the "Brass Pounder's" award, with 111 Field Day CW QSO's!
Congratulations to Alex and Brady on their individually excellent accomplishments.
